Skin Health

The health of your skin starts with a good diet. Proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on having glowing skin. If your diet is full of junk food, your skin will show it. Water is important for hydrating the skin. When your body is dehydrated, your hair and scalp get dry and will break off easily and dehydration can make your nails brittle as well.

It’s hard to think of having a skin care routine when you have no where to go but the fact is, now would be a good time to start this positive habit of having a skin care routine. A skin care routine isn’t just for women either. There’s a funny video going around with a young black man cleaning his face with hand soap and you can hear in the background his girlfriend scolding him on the proper care of his skin. Most men tend to be less concerned about their face than women but its actually important that men take care of their face too. “An effective skin care routine can help prevent acne, treat wrinkles, and help keep your skin looking its best.” For men, incorporating a skin care routine can help with razor burn, dry skin and acne.

While men and women should have different skin care routines, there are basic but essentials steps that both sexes can do to create a quick and easy skin care routine. For both, a good cleanser that’s based on skin type should be applied to the face twice a day to remove dirt, oil and makeup.

The next step in your daily skin care routine would be to use a facial toner. “A face toner is a quick, absorbing liquid that helps to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin, and helps control acne.” Men can use toners too.   “Most guys should only use toner once daily, to prevent any over-drying and redness.”

The last step in this quick skin care routine is the moisturizer. Everyone needs a good moisturizer on their face after cleansing. By adding a moisturizer to your skin care routine,  you prevent your face from becoming dry, flaky and dull. “Many of the best facial moisturizers contain vitamins and other beneficial ingredients, which is an added bonus for your skin.”

There are other steps that you can add in a skin care routine such as exfoliating, facial masks, peels, steaming and more!! NUBODI has created a holistic facial service along with a new line of skin care products that will knock your socks off. HOWEVER, due to the COVID 19 epidemic, we are unable to offer the holistic facial service at this time. The skin care line will hopefully launch later this summer. What NUBODI can offer is skin care consultation on skin health that will offer a nutrition guide for skin care health and suggested skin care recommendations based on skin type. Day 14 of 31 Days Blog Challenge: Product Review

NUBODI’s Taste In Products

In 2011 the organization that I worked for did not get their contract renewed and I was once again, between gigs. On my quest to be totally all natural by using only natural and organic products hair and skin care products, I decided it was time to cut out products that weren’t natural and organic. I started with deodorant. I figured since I wasn’t in an office, that was a good time to test out the waters. Who was going to smell me?

I tried many of the “all natural” and organic deodorant brands out there and they did not work for me. I was so unhappy with what I was finding that I decided to make my own. Not writing down exact measurements and eyeballing it, I had some hit and misses. Some of my own concoctions broke me out. SMH I finally sat down and wrote out exact measurements, tested the product and created a recipe that worked for me.

Deciding to go natural or organic in my products was a no brainer for me. It was reported that breast cancer was linked to the aluminum in deodorant. “Anti-perspirants with aluminum compounds clog up pores, stop your sweat glands to prevent excessive sweating, and trap the bacteria which can eventually cause even worse body odor.” Cosmetic companies are becoming more aware of the consumer health concerns and the need for products that are more beneficial to the health and wellbeing of their consumers.

Not always having the time to create a solid batch, I needed to find a back up. I discovered this lovely gem, Native deodorant at Target and fell in love. I loved it so much that I have not even made my own since finding it. It glides on smooth paste like on the skin and smells divine. My favorite is the coconut vanilla. I haven’t tried the other scents. I may venture over to the other scents eventually but right now I am enjoying this one. There are many benefit to buying organic deodorants one of which is that organic deodorants contain natural ingredients like corn starch, coconut oil and essential oils.

Here are other reasons why I love Native deodorant:

  • NO aluminum, parabéns, sulfates or other nasty chemicals.
  • Products are NOT tested on animals which means they have cruelty free practices
  • It’s a California based manufacturer that makes and sells in the United States

The one con that I have with Native deodorant, is that Native is MADD expensive. It IS one of the most expensive deodorants I have ever bought. At $12 a pop, Native should lighten up on that price. Don’t take my word for how amazing it is though, go to Target and get a sample for yourself. They sell travel size Native deodorants for $3. Leave a comment if you try it and let me know what you think of this wonderful deodorant.

Day 13 of 31 Days Blog Challenge: Behind The Product Making Scenes

How The Magic Goes Down

There’s a lot that goes down in the NUBODI laboratory, also known as The Master Kitchen. To begin, I have to determine what is going to be handcrafted for the day. If I have orders, those come first. If I have no orders in queue, then I rev up my creative juices to construct new products or enhance existing ones.

Gathering of ingredients

Following the evaluation of the tasks to carry out for the day, I commence to pulling out ingredients, bowls, spoons, stirrers, hand mixer, jars and bottles. Before placing everything on my work area, I make sure the area is good and sanitized. Can’t have cooties in my organic products.

A lot of love and care goes into the manufacturing of products by NUBODI. Organic and all natural ingredients are purchased from fair trade manufacturers and organizations that care about the health and wellbeing of people and the environment. When I handcraft a special concoction for a client or customer, each ingredient is carefully selected to support the mind, body and spirit.

Don’t be fooled, my lab isn’t always this neat and tidy when I am assembling a lot of orders. My area gets cleaned up once the magic has ended.

Once the magic is made, I place the mixtures in bottles and jars. The last thing I add before packaging up to send out to customers or placing items on the shelf until a lucky customer purchases it, is a secret element.

This element is exclusive to my clients and customers which makes purchasing all worth while. When orders go out, I add an additional component to the shipping and handling packaging part because my clients and customers are the bomb!! The magic is sent!!

On days that I don’t have orders, those days are spent labeling bottles, jars and setting up packaging so that this doesn’t have to be done after a batch of product is constructed.

This is just a brief synopsis of what goes on in creating an order. The important component to fulfilling orders is gathering the information from the client or customer. The data provided determines the output.  Are you looking for individualized organic and all natural products? NUBODI can handcraft organic and all natural herbal remedies, clinical aromatherapy products, hair care, skin care just for you.

5 Essential Oils for Love

cute-hearts-beautiful-cute-love-heart-wallpaper-hd-free-pink-heart-wallpapers-of-cute-hearts-43427604

“An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile chemical compounds from plants.” People have used essential oils dating back to Biblical times. Now, essential oils are often used in aromatherapy products such as lotions, soaps and other bath products. When mixed with other bases, they are great however, when combined with other essential oils, they are powerful and have many benefits. Essential oils don’t just work on the body, they also work on the mind and the spirit, creating a holistic experience. So when it comes to love, essential oils are no different.

Here are a few oils to add to your daily routine to bring more love into your life.

  1. Ylang Ylang Oil
Ylang ylang essential oil is used to alleviate stress, relieve pain, reduce inflammation, but it is also used to improve mood, and enhance libido. Use Ylang Ylang in a diffuser to let this essential oil flow through the air.
  2. Rose Oil
Rose Oil contains a complex array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and has excellent emollient properties. Rose oil is good for love because it is a mood booster that can promote joy and relaxation.
  3. Neroli Oil
“Neroli essential oil is created by steam distilling the blossoms of the bitter orange and its aroma has been associated with beauty.” Neroli oil can promote emotions of love and passion. It is also a calming pure oil with a deep, floral aroma.
  4. Nutmeg Oil
Nutmeg’s allure is intoxicating. It is said that Nutmeg can help the spirit soften fears, encourages self-esteem, and dissolves sadness to bring happier moods.
  5. Jasmine Oil
Jasmine is associated with love. It also symbolizes beauty, sensuality is used in many love mixtures for it’s ability to attract physical and spiritual love.

There are many ways to use essential oils. To set the love mood, add one of these oils to a diffuser in the room. Allow the oils to fill up the room. Add a few drops of one of these oils to a base carrier oil such as Grapeseed or JoJoba to create a sensual perfume. Place drops of your new perfume on the heart chakra to open yourself up to love.

Want a custom essential oil blend? NUBODI’s clinical aromatherapist can create a custom signature essential oil blend thats right for you. Handcrafted with pure organic essential oils, each custom blend is as unique as you are.

Skin Deep

I launched my Green Goddess parties… and I must say, they are doing quite well. “When it comes to skin, I’ve got you covered.” Like that? That’s my new Green Goddess tag line. LOL I thought it was cute and catchy.

Anyhoo, So I am people watching. I love doing that. And even though its getting pretty chilly out, ladies still have their shiny bare legs out. What that tells me is people are still using baby oil or petroleum based products. “Baby oil is 100% mineral oil. This coats the skin like clingfilm and disrupts the skin’s immune barrier as well as inhibiting its ability to breathe and absorb moisture or nutrition. The inability to release toxins results in blocked pores, spots, acne & other skin disorders. Slows down skin function & cell development & therefore leads to premature ageing of skin.” Vaseline is a petroleum based product included in many of the beauty products on the market today. However, “it destroys vitamins, may be carcinogenic and they clog the pores.”

Every morning like many women, I would get up and “beat my face” is what the gals are calling putting on makeup these day. For almost a year, I barely wore makeup. Even when I went out, I just put on something for my lips. I changed makeup recently. Trying to go as natural as I was going to allow myself to go and decided to buy mineral makeup from a particularly large makeup company. I even found issues with THEIR mineral make up. So I just started to wear only mascara and something on my lips. My favorite mascara contains lead in it!! Is anything safe anymore?? I always wondered why my eyes would itch. I would just blame it on the pollen.

The skin is the largest organ of the body. What you eat and drink directly affects the skin, what it looks like, texture and color. On occasion even body odor. What you put on your skin eventually enters the blood stream which can cause or contribute to illnesses such as asthma, eczema or other more life threatening diseases.

Today products are changing as more and more people are looking for healthier products. Everything now say ORGANIC but doesn’t necessarily mean organic. Manufactures are banking (literally) on the fact that consumers do not read labels. Since the cosmetic industry is not regulated by the FDA, the only thing the product has to do is adhere to a few guidelines which are to list the ingredients of that product. For a product to say 100% organic, the label may contain only organic ingredients. Again, does not mean that is what the product contains. For products to claim organic on the label, “95% of the ingredients must be organically grown, and the remaining ones must come from non-organic ingredients that have been approved on the National List. These products can also display the USDA organic logo and/or the certifier’s logo. ” Lastly for a product to list “Made with organic ingredients, “Must be made with at least 70% organic ingredients, three of which must be listed on the package. The remaining 30% of non-organic ingredients must be approved on the National List. These products may display the certifier’s logo but not the USDA organic logo.”  Read carefully your product’s label.

NUBODI Escentuals are handmade organic products. All of the base products come from reputable manufactures with not only the 100% organic stamped on their labels but also the FDA logo as well. You will not find any talc or aluminum in NUBODI deodorant. Talc “is a known carcinogen and a major cause of ovarian cancer when used in the genital area. It can also lodge in the lungs causing respiratory disorders.” Aluminum “actually blocks your pores and has been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease and breast cancer.”
NUBODI shampoos and conditioners are free of Isopropyl myristate, Iso-propylmyristate (Alcohol), which “Derived from Petroleum or Polyethylene Glycol, which “strips skin’s “Natural Moisture Factor”, leaving the immune system vulnerable and is “commonly found in antifreeze and brake fluid; it is highly toxic, causing brain, liver & kidney abnormalities.”

Are your products safe?

Green Goddess

As a master herbalist and clinical aromatherapist, I had been making my own mind, body and spirit, organic products for years. I was quite happy with selling my products on my website at NUBODI Escentuals & BodiWork however I had a few unruly friends who kept insisting that I have my own parties and sell my products there. You know… kind of like the Mary Kay parties? I was not at ALL interested in doing that. Sounded like a lot of work. One day I said to myself.. “SELF.. you have got to venture out into the world. Let everyone know who you are.” Myself and I had a LONG conversation about it that day. My SELF won. So I got to thinking of ways to promote my party but couldn’t think of what to call it. I thought about Holistic Health and Wellness Party but that would be way too long to say. I was sitting in my office and looked up at my vision board and saw the phrase “A Green Goddess” taped to the board. And wah la… Green Goddess was born!

The Green Goddess Party is part holistic health and wellness informational regarding the skin, part NUBODI product info and part party. There are lots of games, sample product give aways, food and fun!! If this sounds like your type of party…then host a party!! The hostess receives a fabulous gift and wonderful discounts.

For more information on how you can be a Green Goddess hostess,
